A Dry Halloween in Seattle — and the November Rain Waiting Behind It

Dry for trick-or-treat, dry for the I-5 crews, dry for Election Day — then the rain chances climb and November arrives on schedule.

A Dry Halloween in Seattle — and the November Rain Waiting Behind It (Seattle Emerald City News)

Seattle's Halloween weekend is running against the city's reputation: it is dry.

Today, trick-or-treat hours come with mostly to partly cloudy skies, a high of 54 degrees, and no rain chance worth dressing a costume around. Tonight stays mostly cloudy with a low near 42 and only a slight — about 20 percent — chance of rain.

Sunday runs clouds in the morning to sun in the afternoon, high 54, low 39. Monday is cloudy at 54. And Election Day, Tuesday, is shaping up kindly for last-day ballot returns: morning clouds to afternoon sun, a high of 58, and only about a 10 percent chance of rain.

The dry weekend is doing double duty. Northbound I-5 is closed through Seattle all weekend while crews strip the Ship Canal Bridge work zone, and the restriping at the heart of that job needs dry pavement — this forecast is the one the project was waiting for. No weather alerts are in effect.

The reprieve is brief and seasonal. Rain chances climb back to 40 to 60 percent by Wednesday and Thursday, November arrives on schedule, and the dry Halloween becomes the story Seattle tells about the last easy weekend of the fall.
